Since its beginning in 1927, the Swedish company, Volvo, has been at the forefront of safety engineering. Their logo is the chemistry sign for iron, symbolizing the strength of their vehicles.

 

Volvo manufacturers all different kinds of cars such as; sport utility vehicles, station wagons, sedans, compact executive sedans and coupes. Above all else, Volvo has a historic reputation for solidity and reliability. 50 years ago Volvo invented the seatbelt but deliberately left it un-patented because they felt all car owners across the world needed this safety feature. It was also Volvo who first introduced side airbags into their safety design. In the 1970s the National Highway and Transit Safety Administration used the Volvo 240 to set new car safety standards for years to come.

Over the years, Volvo has introduced some of the most revolutionary safety features in the automobile industry history. They have created an airbag for pedestrians, collision warning brake support, a detection system for pedestrians and cyclists, lane departure warnings, enhanced blind spot information system,and the Alcolock system which prevents drivers from operating the card in the condition of alcoholic intoxication.

 

Volvo is not only one of the safest automobiles but, provides high quality, holding the record for the highest mileage in a single car. Irv Gordon drove his 1966 Volvo P1800 three million miles and counting. Irv attributes the longevity of his car to his dedication of proper maintenance and genuine Volvo parts.

 

The company’s high quality has been recognized over the years and Volvo’s SUV, the Xc90 was voted Motor Trend SUV of the year in 2016, keeping with the company’s initial ideology that:
